Hiland 83, East Liverpool Christian 12

The state opened girls basketball tournament play Thursday, with two time defending Div. IV champion Hiland on the docket.

The Hawks had little trouble against East Liverpool Christian, a first-year OHSAA sanctioned school.  East Liverpool Christian has eight players on its team, but only five were dressed for action.  Hiland led 66-6 after three quarters.

Jena Stutzman hit 11-of-14 from the floor en route to a game-high 26 points, adding six steals and five defensive assists that led to ELC turnovers.  Hiland, which had just one turnover, stopped pressing before the first-quarter was over and ELC finished with 23 turnovers.  ELC made four 3-pointers for all their points.

Karli Mast and Kristi Yoder added 10 points apiece for Hiland (17-4), with Yoder snaring eight rebounds.
