Hiland roughs up Conotton Valley

The Hiland girls basketball team got its final tuneup before Monday's matchup against defending Div. II champion River View and the Hawks took advantage, thumping yet another Inter-Valley Conference foe.

It was over from the word "go" in this one.

Hiland tallied 28 in the first quarter while taking a 51-17 first-half lead.  They turned the defense up in the second half, allowing just four points in the game's final 16 minutes in a game they forced 30 turnovers.

Offensively, Hiland (14-3, 14-0 IVC) saw five players tally double digits, including a game-high 22 from freshman Hilary Weaver, who also led the team with six assists.  Jena Stutzman (15 points, seven boards, five assists, five steals) and Lydia Miller (13 points) were next with Karli Mast and Kristi Yoder each finishing with 10.

Hiland outrebounded the opposition 42-17 while hitting 10-of-25 from downtown.
