Hiland girls win another District title

Zoe Miller scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as top-ranked Hiland led 50-10 at the half en route to a 73-22 rout of No. 11 Cambridge for a Division III Girls District Basketball Championship at the Reese Center Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks improved to 24-1 and will face Fort Frye in a Regional Semifinal Wednesday at 7 p.m. with Cambridge or Meadowbrook being possible sites. The Cadets were a 66-51 winner over Union Local in another District Final, although Casey Kildow scored her 1,000th career point for the Jets.

Brynn Mullet added 17 points and Kelsey Swihart put in 10 as 13 Hawks combined to hit 29 of 56 field goals, 7 of 13 from 3-point land, and 8 of 11 free throws.

Cambridge was held to 9 of 36 shooting from the floor and made just 3 of 9 free throws, while turning the ball over 25 times.

Hiland was on top 25-5 after one quarter and 67-16 going to the final frame.

Braxton King led Cambridge with 11 points.
