Hiland hoops win 26th straight IVC title

The Hiland High girls basketball program won its 26th consecutive Inter-Valley Conference title as it claimed the IVC South Division crown after a 78-40 win at Tusky Valley Thursday night. Zoe Miller and Kyli Horn each had 14 points for the top-ranked Hawks, who improved to 19-1 overall and 12-0 in the IVC.

Ashley Mullet and Brynn Mullet added 12 points apiece and Kelsey Swihart chipped in 10.

The winners made 30 of 55 action shots for 54 percent, including a 14 of 21 showing (66 percent) from 3-point land.

Tusky Valley is now 13-6 and 9-2 in the IVC as Ashley Merrick led the way with a game-high 18 points and senior Arora Levengood added 10.

Levengood moved into second place on the Tusky Valley girls' basketball career scoring list with 1,143 points. Dani Fishley Wallick (Class of 1994) tops the Trojans with 1,191 points. Levengood edged past Holly Rhodes (Class of 1990), who had 1,142 points.

Hiland jumped out to a 22-9 lead after one quarter, was up 40-23 at the half and 58-35 going to the final frame.
