Hiland girls basketball still No. 1 in the state

The Hiland High School girls basketball program is still atop the state mountain.

The Hawks (19-1) are ranked No. 1 in Division III as the latest state girls basketball poll results were announced on Tuesday.

Hiland, the Inter-Valley Conference South Division champion, is coming off a win over IVC North champ Tusky Valley in the IVC Showdown last Saturday at the Reese Center.

Hiland is tops in the poll with 116 points and eight first-place votes.

Columbus Africentric is second with 98 points and three-first-place votes and Castalia Margaretta is third with 80.

The Hawks will close out the regular season with home contests against Akron Buchtel (Wednesday) and Waynedale (Saturday).

Hiland’s first tournament game is a sectional final against Harrison Central on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Reese Center.
