Hiland girls roll to IVC win over Garaway

BERLIN Unbeaten Hiland made it a decisive season sweep of rival Garaway in high school girls basketball.

Zoe Miller led a balanced attack with 17 points as Hiland rolled to a 68-20 Inter-Valley Conference South Division win at the Reese Center Wednesday night.

Kendra Shetler added 12 points, Brynn Mullet 11, Kelsey Swihart 10 and Kyli Horn nine for Hiland.

The Hawks also dominated on defense, limiting Garaway to two points in the first quarter and four each in the second and third periods. Hiland led 20-2 after the first quarter, 37-6 at halftime and 52-10 heading into the final frame.

The state-ranked Hawks improved to 10-0 and are 5-0 in the league, while the Pirates (11-2, 5-2) suffered their second loss of the season and second to Hiland, No. 9 in Division III.

Rylee Putt paced the Pirates with seven points and Marley Metzger made five.

Hiland rolled to a 79-29 win over Garaway at Sugarcreek earlier this season.

The Hawks made 26 of 75 action shots and 11 of 14 free throws. The Pirates were 4 of 23 from the field and 11 of 12 from the line.

Hiland outrebounded Garaway 50-24 as Miller grabbed 12 and Shetler added nine.

The Hawks had five turnovers compared with 30 for the Pirates.
