The Hiland Lady Hawks' effort to erase the memories of a disappointing regional loss that saw them go 1-of-26 from the three-point arc began in earnest Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The Lady Hawks traveled to East Canton and dove into their season wholeheartedly, bolting to a huge lead and routing East Canton 76-31.

The outcome was never in doubt, as Hiland fired away from inside the arc at an alarming clip. Hiland went 25-of-38 from two-point range, while hitting 5-of-18 from behind the arc. In addition, the Lady Hawks went a perfect 11-of-11 from the charity stripe.

At the same time, they limited East Canton to an 8-of-32 evening from the floor overall, and inside the 3-point arc it was even tougher for East Canton to find the hoop. The Wizards went a paltry 4-of-20 from two-point range.

Leading the way for Hiland was junior sharpshooter Kennedy Schlabach, who was red-hot all night in all facets. She hit 6-of-10 action shots, went 3-of-5 from downtown and nailed all four of her free throws for 19 points.

She was far from alone in the scoring column. Morgan McMillen hit 7-of-10 shots and added 15 points, Angela Troyer scored 14 points, Jessica Troyer added 11 and Tiffany Weaver tallied eight.

On the glass, Hiland held a 29-22 edge in rebounding, led by Angela Troyer's seven and Melissa Hostetler's six. Jessica Troyer dished out seven assists for the Lady Hawks, while Schlabach added six, as Hiland moved the ball briskly and cleanly, committing just eight turnovers to East Canton's 29.

Many of those turnovers were the result of Hiland players stepping into the passing zone to pick Wizards clean of possession of the ball. Jessica Troyer collected six steals and Angela Troyer and Schlabach both added five thefts.

Savannah Yacklin was the lone East Canton player to experience much success, scoring 13 points and doling out six assists.
