With Hiland’s 50-37 win over Ridgewood on Jan. 24, the Lady Hawks won their 30th straight Inter-Valley Conference game, a streak that pans over three seasons now.

It wasn’t easy for the Lady Hawks though, who found themselves trailing at halftime 25-19 in West Lafayette on Saturday.

A 13-4 run by the Lady Hawks in the game’s third quarter finally put Hiland back on top 32-29. Jessica Troyer’s lay-up gave Hiland a short-lived lead and then the Generals would persevere, getting back-to-back baskets to end the quarter and take back the lead after three, 33-32.

The final stanza was just a matter of the Lady Hawks wearing out Ridgewood down the stretch. All the energy that Ridgewood used to lead after three quarters had reached empty in the fourth. Hiland out-scored Ridgewood 10-1 to open the fourth quarter. Hiland junior Angela Troyer scored five points during that run to propel the Lady Hawks ahead for good.

A strong effort from Ridgewood’s junior Audrey Tingle kept the Generals alive against the mighty Hiland Lady Hawks. Tingle dropped 20 points on Hiland, which was the game-high, and she also yanked down a game-high 10 rebounds for her double-double.

The Lady Hawks were led by sophomore Kennedy Schlabach and her 17 team-leading points. Junior Angela Troyer chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds. Troyer led the Lady Hawks on the glass from the off-guard position.

Sophomore Morgan McMillen had seven points for the Lady Hawks in the win and she also had her passing game on-point, doling out a game-high five assists. Jessica Troyer finished with eight points and three steals for the Lady Hawks.

No other General got into double-digits other than Tingle, the next closest was Kaitlyn Finton’s six points.

Ridgewood out-rebounded Hiland 30-28.

Ridgewood was a chilly 2-for-13 from downtown.
