In one of the state's premier matchups Saturday night, Hiland, ranked fifth in Div. IV, beat archrival Garaway (second, Div. III) and along with the marquee win allowed the Hawks to capture the Inter-Valley Conference crown. The Hawks kept the heat on defensively as they forced the Pirates into 18 turnovers and converted that into a 22-8 edge in points off turnovers.
Angela Troyer led Hiland (19-3, 16-0 IVC) with 18 points and Kennedy Schlabach finished with 15 points. Helping the Hawks control the glass were Melissa Hostetler with eight rebounds and Tiffany Weaver had seven to go with her eight points.
