First-round girls basketball sectional games involving top seeds are usually not pretty — especially for the underdog.
That was definitely the case when Associated Press Div. IV girls basketball poll champion Hiland took on Toronto in a sectional semifinal at Indian Valley Thursday.
Final score: Hiland 79, Toronto 13.
The Hawks (22-1) led 25-3 after one quarter and 51-4 at the half as coach Dave Schlabach substituted liberally.
Hiland slowed down its attack in the second half, only outscoring the Red Knights 22-5 in the third and 6-4 in the fourth.
Angela Troyer led the Hawks with 19 points and Megan Beachy was next with 16.
Hiland will play Shadyside — a 58-57 winner over Steubenville Central Catholic — in a sectional final at Indian Valley Tuesday at 6pm.
