Hiland girls roll in basketball regular-season finale

The Hiland Hawks clinched a share of the Inter-Valley Conference title Monday by blitzing the Newcomerstown Trojans 95-44. Hiland shares the title with Strasburg, both teams finishing at 12-2 in league play.

The Hawks were on fire from 3-point range as they hit 18 of 36 long-range bombs. Regina Hochstetler, who scored a game-high 31 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field, hit nine of 12 attempts from 3-point range.

McKenzie Miller scored 19 points for Hiland (12-2, 12-8) and Bria Coil and Meagan Hall added 16 and 11, respectively.

Allie Hinton pumped in 19 points for Newcomerstown (6-8, 10-10).

The Hawks won the rebounding battle by a 39-23 count. Coil had eight rebounds for Hiland, and Kori Conner had another strong showing on the boards for the Trojans as she collected 11 caroms.

Hiland scored at least 20 points in all four quarters and got off to a blazing start by taking a 27-9 lead after the first quarter. The Hawks led 52-20 at half and never looked back.
