Big showdown at Berlin

A battle of top five girls' basketball programs in Divisions III and IV will take place tonight when Hiland hosts South Euclid Regina at the Reese Center.

Regina (14-2) is ranked No. 2 in the state in Division III and Hiland (15-1) is ranked No. 3 in Division IV.

It is not the first trip to the Reese Center for the Royals.

They were part of the Classic in the Country event which was staged last month. The Royals were two-time winners as they defeated University from New Jersey 56-35 and rolled to a 53-33 win over Mason.

The returning Div. III state champions are led by Florida State University signee Tay'ler Mingo and have a nice core of athletes in starters Therany Dunnigan and Pa'Sonna Hope, who is committed to play at the University of Mississippi next year.

Against University, Mingo scored 19 points and Nirra Fields added a strong 18.

Fields scored 16 points and Mingo and Hope each added 14 in the win over Mason.

Meanwhile, the Hawks have rolled to their 15-1 mark. Their lone blemish was a 77-54 setback to Potter's House from Jacksonville, Fla., at the Classic.

Noelle Yoder leads the team in scoring at 18.6 points per game and Hilary Weaver is next at 15.4, while Katelyn Stuckey averages 9.4 points per game and McKenzie Miller is at 9.3 points per outing.

The Hawks are averaging 71.1 points per game and allowing 34.2.
