Hiland 56, Beallsville 36
Hilary Weaver surpassed the 1,000 career point plateau, and Noelle Yoder had 11 points as Hiland dumptrucked Beallsville by 20 in the Division IV district semifinal on March 2 at Indian Valley High.
Weaver scored a game-high 12 points as she joined the 1,000-point club. She sits at 1,001, ninth on Hiland's illustrious list of all-time stars.
Regan Miller chipped in 10 points for Hiland, which rode a hot start to a 37-17 lead at intermission.
McKenzie Miller had a monstrous 12 boards as Hiland handled Beallsville on the glass 49-25.
While Hiland didn't shoot as well as it had in previous games (34 percent), its defense did a number on Beallsville as the Blue Devils hit just 28 percent of their field goals and 27 percent of their 3-pointers.
Each team had 17 turnovers.
Hiland scored just two points in the fourth quarter but, at that point, the Lady Hawks had the game well in hand.
Hiland 63, Strasburg 42
For the third time this season, the Lady Hawks tamed the Tigers.
Hilary Weaver was sensational, scoring 20 points with six assists and nine steals and adding to her 1,000-point mark as Hiland ousted IVC rival Strasburg by 21 in the Division IV district championship on March 5 at Indian Valley High.
"She's phenomenal," Hiland coach Dave Schlabach said of Weaver, a Lehigh University signee. "She does so many things great that I can't remember - but I'm sure that next year, I'll remember."
Hiland won its 11th, and seventh straight district title.
"We knew it would be a war," Schlabach said following the game. "We were very concerned with this game. I told [Strasburg coach Chad] Bonifant that they could easily be ranked in the top 10 in the state. I feel that they are a top 10 team."
Bowling Green recruit Noelle Yoder added 18 points and eight rebounds and Jessica Stutzman had 10 points for the Lady Hawks, who outscored their opponents 281-121 (70.2-30.2 ppg) in the sectional and district tournaments.
The Lady Hawks led 14-8 after one quarter and 28-19 at halftime. Hiland then outscored Strasburg 20-11 in the third, taking a 48-30 lead into the final eight minutes of action.
Led by Yoder with eight, Hiland outrebounded the bigger Strasburg Tigers 35-20. Nicki Cregan had four to lead the Tigers.
Strasburg had 20 turnovers against a smothering Hiland defense, which scored 28 points off those miscues.
Strasburg did, however, shoot better than Hiland, making 46 percent (18 of 39) of its shots compared to the Lady Hawks' 37 percent (19 of 51).
