Hiland's postseason couldn't have started much better. Hilary Weaver scored 17 points and McKenzie Miller contributed 15 as Hiland limited Toronto to four points in the first half and held the Red Knights scoreless in the second, rolling to a lopsided 74-point Division IV sectional semifinal win at Claymont High on Feb. 18.
Kendra Schlabach came off the bench to score 12 points with five assists for the Lady Hawks, who hit 50 percent of their shots in the first half en route to a 49-4 lead.
Toronto was limited to just two field goals, and shot a forgettable 11 percent from the floor.
Bowling Green recruit Noelle Yoder rested her strained left MCL, and watched as Hiland's bench outscored Toronto 23-2.
Hiland led 16-0 before the Red Knight's Mariah Turner scored on a drive with 1:36 to go in the first quarter. Weaver had 10 and Hiland proceeded to score 22 straight to push its lead to 38-2.
Lady Hawk junior forward Arrianna Shrock was injured in the second quarter. She did not return.
Hiland converted 39 percent (30 of 76) of its field goals and 30 percent (6 of 20) of its 3-pointers.
Toronto failed to convert on each of its seven shot attempts in the second half. The Red Knights struggled against the Lady Hawks' press and were forced into 38 turnovers.
Hiland 84, Malvern 39
Hiland won its 19th sectional title and seventh in-a-row as the Lady Hawks handily beat IVC rival Malvern in the Division IV sectional championship on Feb. 24 at Claymont High.
Hiland's bench once again stepped-up as Missy Mast led 11 Lady Hawks in the scorer's column with 11 points. Meagan Hall added 10 and McKenzie Miller and Regan Miller each had nine.
In all, Hiland received more than half of its points from the bench, accounting for 46 points.
Hiland held a commanding 30-point lead at halftime (51-21) and outscored Malvern 21-8 in the third.
Christina Mayle had a game-high 13 points for Malvern, which shot 35 percent (15 of 43) from the floor.
The Lady Hawks outrebounded the Hornets 36-24, forced 23 turnovers and shot 48 percent (33 of 69) from the field.
Jessica Stutzman led the Lady Hawks with six rebounds.
Hiland stars Noelle Yoder and Hilary Weaver each scored eight points in limited action.
