PERRY TWP. -- The Hiland High School girls basketball team never gets tired of going back to the final four.

Even though this will be the third trip to Columbus for Hiland's seniors, the Hawks treated Friday's 43-22 Division IV regional final win over Cuyahoga Heights as if it was their first.

As the final buzzer sounded at Perry High School on Saturday night, players jumped up and down in celebration, and the Hiland community roared, joyful at another shot at a state championship.

The Hawks (23-2) get that shot at 1 p.m. Friday in a Division IV semifinal against Minster at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus. The winner plays either Harvest Prep or Fort Loramie at 5:15 p.m. Saturday for the state title.

Senior Katelyn Stuckey wants revenge after losing in last year's state championship game.

"We have unfinished business," Stuckey said. "I'm glad we have an opportunity to go back."

Hiland jumped out to an early lead and never had any true threats from Cuyahoga Heights. The Hawks led, 14-2, after one quarter as Heights had trouble against Hiland's man-to-man defense.

Senior Heidi Mervar anchored Cuyahoga Heights' offense, giving the Redskins 6 of her 11 points in the second quarter.

Stuckey, a 5-foot-11 post player, led Hiland with a game-high 14 points.

Hiland head coach David Schlabach said he wanted to get the ball inside from the start.

"In the first three possessions, we wanted her to touch it," Schlabach said. "She had it going early and she had a mismatch."

With 7:29 to play in the fourth, 5-foot-7 senior Noelle Yoder hit a baseline jumper to make it 40-20, erasing any doubt.

Schlabach admitted the game took its toll on his players.

"We were tired mentally and physically," he said.

Heights head coach Al Martin said he has not seen any of Hiland's opponents but admitted they will be difficult to defeat.

"They don't have any weaknesses," Martin said.
