Hiland smokes Beallsville, cruises to district finals

Hilary Weaver surpassed the 1,000 career point plateau last Tuesday, Noelle Yoder scored 11 points with six rebounds, and Hiland rolled to a 56-36 win over Beallsville in the Division IV district semifinal at Indian Valley High.

Hiland bettered its record to 21-2 and advanced to face Strasburg in the district championship.  The Lady Hawks are looking for their 11th regional tournament berth and sixth in the last seven tries.

Weaver - the Division IV Associated Press Eastern District Player of the Year - scored 12 points with six assists for No. 2 Hiland.  The Lehigh University recruit now has 1,001 career points.

Regan Miller, who's come alive this tournament season, added 10 points for the Lady Hawks, who led 18-9 after one quarter and pushed ahead by 20 (37-17) at halftime.

Hiland cooled off in the second half, scoring 19 points, including a two point fourth.

Despite winning by 20, Hiland didn't shoot particularly well, making 34 percent (21 of 61) of its shots from the floor, 25 percent (7 of 28) from 3-point range and 58 percent (7 of 12) from the line.

The Blue Devils (16-7), though, only converted 28 percent (15 of 54) of their field goals.

Tori Jarrett and Rebecca Garlick each had 10 points for Beallsville, which led early 7-5 in the first quarter before Hiland cranked up its pressure and took over for good.

McKenzie Miller had 12 boards and Hiland handily outrebounded Beallsville 49-25.  Ashley Weaver added seven.
