Hiland wins 15th straight sectional title with lopsided win over Malvern girls

Missy Mast had 11 points, and Hiland won its 16th consecutive Division IV sectional title last Wednesday, beating Malvern 84-39 at Claymont High.

The Lady Hawks - the second-ranked team in the final Associated Press girls' basketball poll - upgraded their record to 20-2 and advance to face Beallsville in the district semifinal this Tuesday at Indian Valley High.

Hiland - which won five in-a-row and 10 of 11 - is in the hunt for its seventh straight district title.

Eleven Lady Hawks cracked the scorebook with Mast leading the way with 11.  Meagan Hall added 10.

After resting with an MCL injury in the tournament opener against Toronto, Noelle Yoder returned to the lineup.  the Bowling Green recruit scored eight points with seven assists.

Hiland jumped out to an easy 29-11 lead after one quarter and led 51-21 at halftime.  The Lady Hawks outscored Malvern 21-8 in the third quarter.

Hiland made 48 percent (33 of 69) of its field goals, 73 percent (11 of 15) of its foul shots and outrebounded Malvern 36-24.

Defensively, the Lady Hawks forced the Hornets into 35 percent (15 of 43) shooting from the field and 23 turnovers.

Hiland turned the ball over just eight times.

Jennifer Hall scored 11 points and Logan Smalley kicked in 10 for the Hornets, who conceded 275 points (91.6 ppg) in three games this year to the Lady Hawks.
