Launa Hochstetler playing overseas

Former Hiland star and Valparaiso University alum Launa Hochstetler is playing professional basketball in the Netherlands this season.  She signed in August with Challenge Sports Binnenland Rotterdam, a team that was a national cup finalist in 2009 and ranked seventh in last season's conference play.

Playing for coach Rob Brand, the 2009 Crusaders alum led her team in preseason play in scoring, steals and assists, including leading all scorers with 17 points in a 71-63 win over Osnabruck SC (Germany).

The regular season began Saturday and runs until the end of April with post-season play going through May.

In her first regular season game, Hochstetler hit a pair of 3-pointers, connecting on six-of-11 shots overall for 22 points.  She canned four of six free throws, dished out four assists and added a steal in a 70-62 loss.

Hochstetler earned First Team All-Horizon League honors for Valpo in 2008-2009, leading the league in assists and finishing with 369 for her career.  She set a school record shooting 83.8 percent from the free throw line for her career while ranking 20th on the Crusaders' all-time scoring list.
