Hiland wasted little time in dispatching Inter-Valley Conference foe Malvern with the same ease that it has knocked out every other team in its path. The big news in this win, though, was the fact that it was the school's 500th girls basketball victory. Continuing to back up its No. 1 billing in the Div. IV AP poll, Hiland used its defense and deep rotation in shooting down the Hornets' offense. Malvern managed to toss up just 28 shots while committing 32 turnovers and was outrebounded 38-18. The Hawks were led by strong performances from standouts Launa Hochstetler and Lindsay Stuckey. Hochstetler tossed in a dozen points and grabbed 11 steals, while Stuckey connected for team-highs of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Leah Hochstetler netted 12 points and freshman sensation Jena Stutzman finished with 16 markers. Hiland's offense added up to 15 assists, led by Launa Hochstetler with seven, and the defense contributed to a 34-5 edge in points off turnovers. Courtesy The Daily Record, Wooster, Ohio. |
